| Why Manager as Leader? |
| According to current thinking, managers are principally
administrators, developing business plans, budgeting and monitoring
progress. Leaders however are more transformational – catalysing
change in organizations and people. A more useful distinction between
management and leadership perhaps is that management is a function
necessary in business, while leadership is a relationship between the
leader and the team that energises the company. The Manager as Leader
will explore the challenges of leading a team and will focus on the
values, skills and behaviours of the effective leader. |

| The Fundamentals

| Why The Fundamentals of Management? |
| Often those promoted to a first-time management post
have shown skill in their own area of expertise but have little or
no experience of the competencies required of a manager. To make
the leap from employee to manager without understanding the responsibilities
of the role can be daunting and de-motivating for both the new manager
and their direct reports. |
